ABOUT US

Hey I’m Glenn. I’m so pleased to connect with a fellow pet cockatiel enthusiast.

My family and I have had 3 cockatiels in our lives over the years. The first cockatiel I got to know was a sweet hand reared bird that my brother bought and named ‘Spike’. Original I know!

When I moved out of home (20 years ago now) a tame cockatiel flew into my wife’s kindergarten that she was teaching in. We took him home for a few days until we could find his owner. Sadly, we never found his original home, but he became a valued member of our family. We starting calling him ‘Little Buddy’. It wasn’t really meant to be his name. It’s just what we called him for a few days, that turned into years. He eventually started calling himself ‘Little Buddy’, so it kind of became official. We made a tree for him in our house, he loved eating our jigsaw puzzles, loved a scratch and became super protective over any kind of linen. He also whistled the ‘1812 overture’ by Tchaikovsky.

Now our family has a beautiful girl named ‘Nebbel’. She loves a scratch, flying around the house and linen too!

She got out once and although we prayed and hoped we would find her, we didn’t have a lot of hope. 3 months later she was found 50 kilometres away! Now, whenever Lorikeets fly pass, ‘Nebbel’ squawks  back to them. We suspect some Lorikeets kind of adopted her for a while. The adventures she must have had. I will post one day a bit more on what happened, and how we found her. For now don’t give up if you have lost your bird. It’s not rare to be found again at some point and/or find another lovely home.

We would love to hear if you have any questions or about your pet cockatiel in the comments below.
